Lil Wayne Dropped from Damian Lillard Track

By Amanda Wicks

It doesn’t matter that Lil Wayne has contributed features to Chance the Rapper’s mixtape Coloring Book or to Young Jeezy’s upcoming mixtape Trap or Die 3. When it comes to his appearance The Letter O, the debut album from Portland Trail Blazers guard turned rapper Damian Lillard, Lil Wayne’s label doesn’t want him participating.

Lil Wayne appears on the track “Loyal to the Soil,” but according to Lillard’s Twitter account he won’t be part of it for long.

“I am being forced to remove Lil Wayne from #TheLetterO track ‘Loyal to the Soil'” Lillard tweeted on Tuesday (Oct. 25). He added the reason, explaining, “Despite my agreement with Wayne, his parent label is forcing me to remove him.” It’s unclear whether “label” in this case means Cash Money Records or parent company Universal Music Group (UMG). Lil Wayne is suing both for back royalties he says they owe him.

Lillard still has plenty of strong features to set off his debut, which dropped last week, including Juvenile and Jamie Foxx, but there’s no doubt Lil Wayne was a key addition. As of this posting, Lil Wayne can still be found on the track, so listen while you can.
